Soli Deo Gloria celebrates with ‘Vibrant Colors’

Soli Deo Gloria, the greater Fresno area’s preeminent women’s chorale, is celebrating a very special anniversary this year: No. 10.

Doesn’t time fly?

To mark the occasion, music director Julie Carter commissioned a piece titled “Immortal Harps” from local composer Kevin Memley. Here’s a description:

Set to a wonderful poem by John Milton, it describes the music of the spheres and the power and splendor of heavenly singing with imagery that overloads the senses. It talks about songs sung before a sapphire throne, celebratory heavenly exclamations, Seraphim playing angelic trumpets while the Cherubic choirs of thousands play harps of golden wires. Memley sets this text dramatically with an exciting rhythmic piano accompaniment and rich choral writing that drive the message home of ultimate harmony between those in heaven and earth.
