StageWorks Fresno announces 2019 season

StageWorks Fresno will be thanking ABBA for the music when it stages a big version of the stage musical “Mamma Mia” on July 12-14 at Shaghoian Hall. It will be similar in format to the popular 2013 StageWorks production of “Les Miserables.”

There are two other titles in the 2019 season:

“La Cage Aux Folles,” the famed Jerry Herman musical about a gay couple whose son brings home his fiancée’s ultra-conservative parents to meet them, plays July 26- Aug. 11 at the Dan Pessano Theater. (Yes, July will be Dancing Queen Month. Do you think the City Council will pass a resolution?)

“The Book of Will,” a new comedy by Lauren Gunderson about a couple of guys who save much of Shakespeare’s work from destruction (much to the delight of high school students through the ages), plays Sept. 6-15 at the Fresno Art Museum’s Bonner Auditorium.

With three mainstage productions, the StageWorks season has one offering less than recent years, but some of the smaller offerings for which the company is known will return, including special cabarets and the restart of the popular Page to Stage readings series.

Of course, the 2018 season isn’t over yet: “The Last 5 Years” opens Friday, Sept. 7, at the Fresno Art Museum’s Bonner Auditorium.
