Special video coverage: Soli Deo Gloria returns to live performance with ‘Christmas Voices’
Julie Carter loves Christmas.
The music director of Soli Deo Gloria, the celebrated Fresno women’s chorale, decks out her home each year to celebrate the holiday, including an 11-foot tree. She also revels in her ensemble’s annual holiday concert, which this year is titled “Christmas Voices.”
I asked Carter if she would sit down at her piano and talk about a couple of the works on the joyous program, which marks Soli Deo Gloria’s return to live performance for the first time in nearly two years. In the following video, she walks us through Benjamin Britten’s classic “A Ceremony of Carols” — and then gives us a musician’s viewpoint on “Jingle Bells.” The result is this illuminating and festive video that will certainly help you get in the holiday spirit.
