Weekend pick: This is your final chance to catch CMT’s ‘SIX: Teen Edition’

By Manjot Dhanda

What’s better than a history lesson?

A history lesson turned into a pop concert.

Children’s Musical Theaterworks’ production of “SIX: Teen Edition” wraps up this weekend at the CMT Black Box Theater. The show gives audiences one last chance to see the high-energy musical that retells the story of Henry VIII’s six wives through modern pop performers.

Instead of a traditional history lesson, “SIX” turns Tudor history into a fast-paced show. Each queen tells her story through pop-inspired songs that mix humor, emotion and attitude, making it feel more like a live concert than a typical musical. The simple staging and direct connection with the audience keep the focus on the performers and their stories.

CMT’s teen cast highlights themes of identity, strength and self-expression that have helped make SIX popular on Broadway, in London and around the world. For local audiences, it’s also a chance to see young Central Valley performers take on a show known for its demanding vocals and high energy.

With only a few performances left, this weekend is the last opportunity to see the show in Fresno. Performances run through Feb. 22 at the CMT Black Box Theater. Tickets and additional information are available through Children’s Musical Theaterworks.
