Win tickets to Fresno Philharmonic’s ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ orchestral bash

Tim Burton’s film is a classic.

Update: The concert is sold out. Congratulations to Michael Parola and Brandon Baker, who each won a pair of tickets through The Munro Review.

You can win a pair of tickets to the Fresno Philharmonic’s next pops concert, which features the orchestra performing Danny Elfman’s score to “Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas” as the movie is screened (7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, Saroyan Theatre.) Remember Jack Skellington, Halloween Town’s beloved Pumpkin King? He’s even more impressive with live music. This is a very popular concert that is close to being sold out, so consider this a prime giveaway.

The contest is open only to members, donors and individual sponsors of The Munro Review. Tax-deductible memberships start at $5 a month, and you can make a one-time donation of as little as $3. (Paid memberships help keep the site running, and paid members get special members-only benefits. Please consider a paid membership in support of independent, local arts journalism.) A free membership option is available. For details on how to join, go to the Membership and Sponsorship page. No purchase, donation or membership is necessary to enter the ticket giveaway.

To enter this giveaway, leave a reply on this post (see below) answering this question: What’s your favorite Tim Burton film or Danny Elfman score? (Or you can just say why you’d like to attend.) Deadline to enter is 3 p.m Wednesday, Oct. 9. The winner will be picked at random and notified by email.

I absolutely love Danny Elfman. He is a genius. I have been a fan of TNBC since day one (80’s baby) and pulled my daughters into the fandom. I love anything that Elfman and Burton create. My girls and I would love to attend this performance, we all share a love of Orchestra performances. Thank you for the opportunity!

  • Hard to pick one Elfman score, but the Beetlejuice theme is pretty amazing. I wanted to go to this anyway and was planning on it, but the available seats were all solo and I want to ask a Sally so this Jack won’t be singing along alone. For it’s as plain as anyone can see, we’re simply meant to be. Donating now!

100% a fan of both–huge Oingo Boingo/Danny Elfman fan, even from The Forbidden Zone and Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo days, and Beetlejuice’s soundtrack has a very Boingo feel to it (so I gravitate toward that one in particular)! Nightmare is a given, anything with Danny singing but he does such a lovely and unforgettable soundtrack for this film. For Tim Burton, Ed Wood is one of my all-time favorite films, but then I juggle between Nightmare, Sleepy Hollow and Beetlejuice for close second favorite. Either way, whether they’re working together or separately (though I prefer together), I’m on board. I’ll stick with House of Dark Shadows over Burton’s adaptation, though. 😉

My son is a huge Philharmonic fan, but we are only able to afford to attend once a season. He is the one who started us going and now I enjoy it as well. His favorite Danny Elfman scores are “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and Batman. He would be so happy to win tickets!

I do not have a favorite movie because I love them all. I haven’t been to the philharmonic in years and this is a good one to go to with my daughter who is a music major at FCC.
