Wednesday pick: Fresno Philharmonic’s ‘Green Room’ on Facebook

Spotlight on the woodwind section! The Fresno Philharmonic’s popular “Green Room” series continues Wednesday, Aug. 12, with two special guests: principal flutist Janette Erickson; and principal oboist Rong-Huey Liu.

Maestro Rei Hotoda hosts the weekly event, which is streamed live on Facebook (and available thereafter for viewing) in a mini-talk-show format. I know that some fans of the orchestra have spent years in the audience watching the musicians intently and feeling as if they “know” them. But this is an opportunity to get up close and personal. I know it adds a lot to a Fresno Philharmonic performance for me when I have a personal connection to some of the players, even if it’s just meeting them once and hearing their voices. Music is personal.

Also, it’s fun to listen to Hotoda talk to her musicians; she’s a good interviewer!

The episode starts at 8 p.m. Here’s last week’s episode:
