Friday pick: Joyce Yang returns to Keyboard Concerts for all-Russian program

Joyce Yang, whose silver medal 20 years at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition launched an international career, returns for a fourth engagement with the Philip Lorenz International Keyboard Concerts series (7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the Fresno State Concert Hall). She’s also a favorite of Fresno Philharmonic audiences. (In fact, she’ll be returning to Fresno to perform with the orchestra June 1-2.)

If you haven’t heard Yang in person, you’ve missed out. For her last performance with the Fresno Philharmonic, in 2021 I interviewed Yang (for the third time!) and was completely charmed.

For her latest Keyboard Concert, her program includes Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.”

I’m also charmed by this “newbie to classical music” story by Collegian reporter Abraham Cruz, who went to his first Keyboard Concert in February to hear Richard Goode. He’s going to be attending tonight’s concert to hear Yang.
