To continue this year’s membership drive, you can win tickets to Fresno State’s new production of ‘Spring Awakening’

Fresno State opens the searing, edgy, raucous and tuneful musical “Spring Awakening” on Friday, May 3. I can’t emphasize enough how important an event this is on campus and in the community. Fresno State only stages a full-scale musical every other year, and you don’t want to miss one when they do.

To celebrate, I’m giving away two pairs of tickets to any performance after opening night. (The production runs through Saturday, May 11.)

The contest is open to members, donors and individual sponsors of The Munro Review. You can join for as little as $5 a month. Details on memberships and how to enter the contest are below; a free membership is available. The Munro Review is under the fiscal sponsorship of the Community Media Access Collaborative, a registered non-profit. All memberships and donations are tax-deductible. See below for more info on how to enter.

I’m using the giveaway to help anchor a membership drive for The Munro Review, which as a non-profit relies on donations from members and sponsors to keep the virtual doors open. Believe it or not, TMR is now in its seventh year of continuous and extensive coverage of the local arts scene. I am thankful beyond belief to my generous donors, many of whom have been with me from the beginning. However, there’s always a bit of “churn” in membership support, and I’ve been losing a few more paying members than I’ve been gaining. That’s why I’m using the “Aladdin” giveaway not only as a fun way to make our winner happy but also to remind you all that I am still here, week in and week out, keeping a spotlight on the arts community. I currently have about 325 monthly and annual donors, which means that along with several loyal organizational sponsors, I’m able to pay two regular freelancers, website expenses and pay myself for about nine hours a week of work. (Which, um, I usually far exceed, which is my own donation in time to the Fresno arts community.)

I hate asking for money, so I don’t do it very often! Here’s my brief spiel: If I could reach a level of 700 paying members, I’d be able to make the site even better.

To build the membership base, I’m offering an incentive for the “Spring Awakening” giveaway: Each new paid membership will receive two entries in the giveaway.

Tax-deductible memberships start at $5 a month, and you can make a one-time donation of as little as $3. A free membership option is available. For details on how to join, go to the Membership and Sponsorship page. No purchase, donation or membership is necessary to enter the ticket giveaway.

To enter this giveaway, leave a reply on this post (see below) answering the following question: What is your favorite thing about spring?

In spring, I watch for my crocus and tulips and daffodil bulbs to slowly awaken from their winter dormancy with their green tips emerging from the earth to greet the sunlight

    Dear Donald,
Thank you once again for your give away of ticket. I appreciate all you do for the community. I always tell all me friends that he (you) is the only one who has continued to inform us of the local arts scene. Bravo to you for your work!

I love the warmer weather when it’s not yet too hot. I also enjoy performing in local Spring concerts with 3 choral groups.
