by Heather Parish

In case you missed it, we’re headed into the last weekend of National Poetry Month. And it’s also a great weekend to soak up some local verse and get your poetry fix. Whether you’re into powerful spoken word, humorous storytelling, or quiet, soul-stirring stanzas, there’s something special about hearing it live. Plus, showing up for local poets helps keep the creative scene thriving. Check out these events and celebrate the voices making waves in your own backyard.

Friday, April 25: No Filter Open Mic

Got something to say? No Filter wants to hear it. This monthly open mic welcomes both fresh voices and veteran writers to the mic, creating a space where honesty and creativity take the lead. Poetry, storytelling, music, comedy—all are embraced. Whether you’re sharing for the first time or fiftieth, it’s about showing up and speaking your truth. They typically run two rounds of speakers and sign ups are open all evening until the board is full. You’re welcome to come and go as you please.

Dulce Up Front – 2026 N. Van Ness Blvd. (across from Fresno High next to the mini-park)

Saturday, April 26: Tower Porchfest

Now Featuring Spoken Word! Tower Porchfest isn’t just for bands anymore—this year, poetry and spoken word are stepping up to the mic. Scattered across cozy front yards and shady porches, you’ll find powerful performances from local poetry collectives and storytellers. Whether you’re wandering by or planning your route, don’t miss the chance to catch live poetry in one of Fresno’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
