Weekend pick: Maria Briggs and Friends at Fresno State

If you’ve never heard a live performance by Maria Okunev-Briggs, the celebrated soprano who teaches voice at Fresno State, you’re in for a treat. In a concert titled “Dr. Briggs and Friends!,” you’ll hear a vibrant program that spans the world of American, Russian, French and German music — featuring both beloved masterpieces and fresh, contemporary works.

The event (2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, Fresno State Concert Hall) is a presentation of Fresno State’s Art Song Festival.

The roster of guest artists includes Matthew Harikian (collaborative piano), Anglieca Nuby (flute), Nathan Sobieralski (trumpet), Amelia Smith (clarinet) and Catherine Marchese (bassoon).

Tickets are $20 general, $15 military/senior, $10 student, Fresno State I.D. free.
