Win tickets to 20th anniversary tour of ‘RENT’ plus dinner at Cosmo

You can win two tickets to opening night of the national tour of  “RENT” (7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, Saroyan Theatre). And there’s more! The winner also will receive dinner for two at the wonderful Cosmopolitan Tavern & Grill, conveniently located adjacent to the convention center — and free parking for the evening. (Thanks, Cosmo and Broadway in Fresno, for the prizes.)

This 20th anniversary tour is the same that will be playing in San Francisco and Los Angeles later in the year.

The contest is open only to members, donors and individual sponsors of The Munro Review. Tax-deductible memberships start at $5 a month, and you can make a one-time donation of as little as $3. (Paid memberships help keep the site running, and paid members get special members-only benefits. Please consider a paid membership in support of independent, local arts journalism.) A free membership option is available. For details on how to join, go to the Membership and Sponsorship page. No purchase, donation or membership is necessary to enter the ticket giveaway.

To enter this giveaway, leave a reply on this post (see below) answering this question: If you’ve seen “RENT” before, what’s your most lasting memory of the experience? (Or you can just tell us why you want to go to the show.)  Deadline to enter is 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31. The winner will be picked at random and notified by email.

I saw Rent in NYC so many years ago that I can’t remember anything about it. I do remember going by myself, since the GF I was staying with had no interest in it.

I went to NYC, dying to see it on Broadway, and local star Sharon Leal was in it! It was amayyyzing!

Next night I check out Jekyl and Hyde and hated it, so I left at intermission and went back for the second act of RENT…and Daphne Rubin Vega was DRUNK! She could barely walk, let alone sing. I’m so glad I saw it flawlessly the night before, so Daphne’s drunk act was actually comical to me.

Unfortunately I never got to see Sharon as Mimi on Broadway (she was the understudy and filled in often). When RENT came to San Francisco, the awesome Erika Munoz was in it (she played Mary Magdalene in JC Superstar for me at the Tower Theatre – all these great local connections!).

I love RENT and I’m crossing my fingers on this contest!

I fell in love with Rent when it first came out, and have been a fan since. I saw it for the first time on Thanksgiving Night in NYC back in 2000, and then again saw the last tour with Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal in LA maybe 10 years ago or so. Meeting the two of them after the show and seeing just how genuinely humble and kind Adam was was really inspiring and nice to see. Anthony seemed to be just going through the routine and moved as fast as he could – but Adam took the time for photos and autographs.

Would love to see another production of the show , it’s always been one that meant a lot to me.

I have seen the movie, but not the play on stage. I would enjoy seeing the play and how it is staged. I have a CD of the movie and it brings back the great dancing, acting and choreography by a great group.

I have never seen the live show but I have seen the movie many times and listened to the soundtrack so many times on cd that I scratched it so it wouldn’t play. I would love to finally see it on stage!

It has been a few years but what stands out is the stage and it’s simple but very moving set. There was so much power in the dark lines. My other memory was Seasons of Love.. one of my all time favorite hearty pieces of music.

I listened to the soundtrack so many times I felt as if I had seen Rent on stage when in fact I had not. But I did see the movie when it was released. So I would be more than grateful to see a live performance here in Fresno. And a Cosmo dinner beforehand would certainly be a terrific addition to a memorable evening.

We have always loved the movie and it’s concept. The sad death of the writer at such a young age just melds with the whole play. Thought Idena Menzel singing and acting were wonderful. Actually we felt that all the cast were leads!

As a member of actors equity (dancer, singer, actor, choreographer and director) i left part of my heart, spirit and soul in New York. While my broadway contract was just shy of achieving, I made the choice to came home to take care of my ill parents who suffer from kidney failure and arthritis. Being in a small town of Kerman, the artist in me misses the opportunities of walking down the street to see a show that usually changed my life.
I’ve seen the show and I was called to audition many times to play angel, and was told I wasn’t ethnic looking enough to play the role. My every part of being as an artist is being is represented in this show and I would love the chance to see the show again in Fresno, to feel like I just took the “A” train downtown in my theater attire.
Live in house, I’ll be your castle. Just pay me back with one thousand kisses Fresno!!! Thank you Munroreview for all that you do and this awesome contest!

I love RENT and the song, Seasons of Love! I haven’t seen it in Broadway, but have the movie version. I saw it live performance/sing along show in LA 10+ years ago where the actress playing Mini put glitter in her hair so when she danced & flipped her head and hair, a spray of gold glitter enveloped her. It was a great effect.
