Weekend pick: In its 35th season, ‘New Wrinkles Presents America, Sing!’

From the sound of it, the hottest ticket in town this weekend — especially if you prefer matinees — is the latest edition of the much-loved “New Wrinkles” franchise at Fresno City College. The show opened with a fundraiser benefit performance on Friday, June 2, and the box office announced this morning that the Saturday, June 3 matinee was sold out. “New Wrinkles Presents America, Sing!” runs through June 11.

Now in its 35th season, “New Wrinkles” is performed by a talented volunteer cast aged 55 and older. Shows offer a distinct blend of music, dance, comedy and more. The director is David Bonetto.

Arts lover Jackie Ryle was there last night and loved this year’s show:

Here’s a 2018 interview I did with Bonetto about directing the show.

There are only eight performances in total, which is half of what used to be offered pre-Covid. Sellouts are common. You have to plan ahead.
