“Aqueous Terrain”: New Work by James Entz

The Fig Tree Gallery presents “Aqueous Terrain,” an exhibition of new work by James Entz. The artist’s reception will take place during ArtHop and the exhibition runs from November 5 to 29, 2026. Entz’s artwork is the result of an ongoing investigation into the mutability of the aqueous material he utilizes to make his artwork. Entz states that “water is the vehicle of the acrylic medium I use with its fluidity and motion to create those moments of working transcendence.” According to Entz, the works at the exhibition are made up of multiple layers of acrylic paint on wood. These painted layers dry over time, forming a topographical scene. The paintings are hacked and cut to reveal their layers, allowing a look under the surface and establishing a dialog between the painting’s outward face and its interior layer.
