Win tickets to the Fresno Art Museum’s much anticipated ‘When Art Meets Jazz’
Fans of jazz and art won’t want to miss this one. You can win a pair of tickets to The Fresno Art Museum’s “When Art Meets Jazz” fundraising event (2-8 p.m. Saturday, May 18) featuring local visual artists and musicians inspiring each other to create improvisational works in a live setting.
Here’s how it works: A number of Valley artists (including Patti Calvert, Caleb Henderson, Stephanie Ryan, Sylvia Savala, Anne Scheid, Kevin Stewart-Magee, Rob Weibel, Ron Wigginton, Julia Woli Scott, Evany Zirul, and others) will begin the event with a blank canvas. As the show begins, they will draw their inspiration from the improvised music of many of the Valley’s best jazz musicians and the atmosphere of the event itself. You’ll have a chance to bid on the finished artworks.
The afternoon begins with music from the Milestones Youth Jazz Workshop. Later, some of the biggest names in local jazz will perform, including Benjamin Boone, Richard Giddens and David Aus. Former United States poet laureate Juan Felipe Herrera will join Boone during his set.
Other highlights: Jackie Ryle will be the Master of Ceremonies. Of note, artist Robert Weibel will be demonstrating his amazing pyrotechnic art skills as he creates dramatic art pieces with gunpowder.
Tickets are $30 general, with children 10 and under free. But if you’re a winner in this giveaway, you’ll get a pair of free tickets.
The contest is open only to members, donors and individual sponsors of The Munro Review. Tax-deductible memberships start at $5 a month, and you can make a one-time donation of as little as $3. (Paid memberships help keep the site running, and paid members get special members-only benefits. Please consider a paid membership in support of independent, local arts journalism.) A free membership option is available. For details on how to join, go to the Membership and Sponsorship page. No purchase, donation or membership is necessary to enter the ticket giveaway.
To enter this giveaway, leave a reply on this post (see below) answering this question: What is your favorite jazz instrument and why? (Or, if you’re instrument-commitment shy, just tell us why you’d like to go.) Deadline to enter is 3 p.m Wednesday, May 15. The winner will be picked at random and notified by email.
