‘Little Mermaid’ in photos: CMT goes big with sets and costumes

It requires a lot of effort to take an audience “Under the Sea.” As Children’s Musical Theaterworks heads into its second and final weekend of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Jr.,” I thought it’d be fun to share with you a few images highlighting the show’s scenic design (by Dan Aldape, with set construction by Robby Bowling), lights (also by Aldape), and costumes (by Jen Ruiz). Director is C.J. Dion, and assistant director is Abbie Kincade.

As the big summer theater rush calms down, let’s remember all the folks who work behind the scenes. Without them, all we’d have would be bare stages!

Plus: ‘CMT’s Got Talent’ is coming soon

I’m not familiar with all the finalists on the list for next week’s “CMT Got Talent,’ but I know enough of them to predict that it’s going to be stiff competition for this year’s title. The event on Aug. 16 serves both as a fundraiser for CMT (including a no-host wine bar and appetizers and silent auction) and an exciting talent show.

The finalists are:

Mayce Atherton: Voice
Atticus Boone: Voice/Piano
Avery Chevalier & Ameera Lemieux: Vocal Duet
Carissa Conover: Voice
Maya Gengozian: Voice
Ashlyn Gorden: Dance
Emily Ellis: Voice
Max Jimenez: Voice
Bryant Howard & Maya Sosa: Vocal Duet
Macayla & Markus Sevilla: Voice/Piano

There are two ticket levels. Section A tickets are $40 for adults, $10 children (includes pre-show reception and show); and Section B and C tickets are $20 adults, $10 children (show only).
