A top pick for October ArtHop: Take a video tour of the sweeping ‘Jose Montoya’s Resonant Valley’ at Arte Americas

It can feel luxurious when a museum or cultural center introduces a longterm show. You feel like you have all the time in the world to see it. And because of that, you end up putting it off.

Suddenly five months have gone by and you still haven’t made it out to see the exhibition.

That might be the case with “Jose Montoya’s Resonant Valley,” the insightful experience awaiting you at Arte Americas. It opened May 12, but I’m guessing that a fair number of arts enthusiasts still haven’t taken the time to see it. (It runs through Nov. 26.) CMAC producer Kyle Lowe and I got to take a private tour with Arianna Paz Chávez, the center’s new executive director.

Once you’ve had your artistic appetite whetted by the video, you can make sure to see it in person. ArtHop (the monthly open house of galleries and studios in the downtown and Tower District neighborhoods) is a good time to do so. At October’s ArtHop (Thursday, Oct. 5) from 6-7 p.m., you can enjoy a poetry reading by Jose Olivarez.
