Win tickets to opening weekend of Selma Arts Center’s extravagant musical ‘Head Over Heels’

Who’s got the beat? Selma Arts Center, definitely. In one of the season’s biggest theater events, the musical “Head Over Heels” opens Thursday, July 15.  And I’m giving away a pair of tickets to opening weekend!

Here’s a description from Selma Arts Center:

This laugh-out-loud love story is set to the music of the iconic 1980’s all-female rock band The Go-Go’s, including the hit songs, “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” and “Mad About You.” A hilarious, exuberant celebration of love, “Head Over Heels” follows the escapades of a royal family on an outrageous journey to save their beloved kingdom from extinction—only to discover the key to their realm’s survival lies within each of their own hearts. Director and choreographer Michael C. Flores has created a visual wonderland, fusing pop music, dance, color, and historical panache.

Instead of the usual Selma Arts Center venue, the production is being staged outdoors at Pioneer Village. The lush greenery of the park includes the natural canopy of many trees, a great setting for the woods heading to Bohemia.

For my ticket giveaway, you can pick any of the first four performances: 8 p.m. Thursday, July 15; 8 p.m. Friday, July 16; 8 p.m. Saturday, July 17; or Sunday, July 18.

The contest is open to members, donors and individual sponsors of The Munro Review.

Considering the number of times I saw the video in the early days of MTV, I’ll go with “Our Lips Are Sealed”.

  • Our Lips are Sealed was my introduction to New Wave. I was about 9 and my older brother bought “Beauty and the Beat” in his brief flirtation with New Wave before heading into heavy metal. I inherited the album and walked straight into New Wave with no regrets.

“Vacation!” Reminds of the memorable 80s summers I had. Always puts me in the mood for summer and for vacations!

My favorite song is “Get Up and Go”. Not only does it have a GREAT beat, but I have been in that exact position before in my life. When it pops on my playlist, I scream it very loudly.
