Now broadcasting: ‘The Arts Angle’ on Valley Public Radio. Listen for my one-minute segments.

By Donald Munro

I admit it: I’m building a media empire in Fresno consisting of text (this website), video (my CMAC show, a new episode of which just premiered), and now radio (on KVPR).

My monopoly awaits. I’d better be careful or the government will bust me under anti-trust regulations. Oh, wait. That doesn’t seem to matter these days.

Anyway, I’m talking on all three platforms about the local arts scene. I’m told the KVPR spots will air Thursdays and Fridays at 9:58 a.m., 12:58 p.m. and 5:49 p.m. On Saturdays they will air at 9:58 a.m., 12:58 p.m. and 5:58 p.m. Here is this weekend’s version. We’re calling it “The Arts Angle.”

Writing for radio is fun — and challenging. I’m naturally sort of a wordy guy, and I have to be ruthlessly concise to fit everything into 57 seconds. That’s room for about three items. I’ll direct readers toward reviews of continuing events if applicable, and the rest will be my picks in terms of promising events. Another interesting part is that station management has asked me to include arts coverage of Bakersfield, Merced and other areas I don’t tend to cover as much. I think that will be fun. I’ve already been learning about Bakersfield’s eclectic theater scene.

If you’d like to listen to “The Arts Angle” but can’t do it live, KVPR has built a page for the weekly segments. I hope you enjoy!
