Weekend pick: ‘The Birds,’ directed by Diego Sosa. Watch my interview on the latest episode of ‘The Munro Review on CMAC.’

For the new episode of “The Munro Review on CMAC,” producer Kyle Lowe and I once again took things on the road — the theater road, that is. We dropped by Sunnyside High School, where Diego Sosa for the second year has created what you might call his own indie theater company. This summer’s title is “The Birds.” Yes, it is based on the same source material as Alfred Hitchcock’s famous film, but playwright Conor McPherson didn’t make a movie-to-theater adaptation. In an isolated house, strangers Nat and Diane take shelter from relentless masses of attacking birds. The play debuted in 2009 at the Gate Theatre in Dublin.

Last year, Sosa made a splash with a production of “Misery.”

“The Birds” only has three performances remaining (7:30 p.m. Friday, July 24; and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25.) You can get more information about tickets here.
